The Learner Experience Matters: Dignity and Language in ABA Practice

Get a certificate by completing the program.

About

This presentation examines how practitioners can use everyday language that reflects the activities learners are participating in while maintaining the clinical precision of ABA practice. Drawing on contextualism, it distinguishes the science and behavioural principles guiding professional decisions from the learner’s experience of playing, communicating, and participating in daily life. Practical examples invite participants to reflect on phrases such as “time for work” and “let’s do turn taking,” and consider how their language can better connect teaching goals with the purpose and context of an activity.
